2010 Festival Newsletter
A big thank you to everyone who came along last weekend and made it such a success. I hope you all enjoyed it.
It was great to see you all but a special thanks to the "first timers" and the old friends who have moved away or have other commitments these days and don't get to the Tuesday club nights.
A big thank you has to go to the Mansfield Rugby Club for letting us hold the event there - the venue really suits us and the bar and catering teams did a sterling job.
What about the sound guys, Anthony and Mike. I thought they got the sound levels and lighting just right all day ...and it was a long day for them. They arrived on site at about 9am to build the stage and stripped it out at 1 am after the event.
They had 28 acts ranging for solo artists to mass bands (I haven't a clue how many performers that translates to) to mic-up. What a daunting task! Well done and would you come back next year please and do it all over again... yes.. read on... there will be one next year.
Thanks go to the sponsors of the raffle prizes:
- Music Scene of Mansfield
- Auto Smart Valeting, Mansfield ( opposite Brown Cow)
- R & K Garages Mansfield
- Mansfield Rugby Club
- Jango's Indoor Play Centre, Mansfield (Marcus Warren donated 8 vouchers)
- the friend of the folk club who kindly donated the Vintage Tenor Banjo for auction, the winner of which was Andrew from Victoria Carpets of Worksop.
We raised enough funds from the raffle, the banjo auction and the bucket collection to kick start the planning for a 2011 Festival.
I hope to have a full festival Balance Sheet available in a couple of weeks time which will be available for any folk club member to view.
But we will need more to fund it as a free event so if you have any ideas for fund raising let me know.
Steve Saunders has indicated that he will be willing to head it up again next year.
Events like this don't just happen ..a lot of work goes on behind the scenes to ensure that everything is in place for your enjoyment and safety... e.g. were you all aware that we had a security guy on site between the hours of 8pm and 2am?
THANKS STEVE
Most of the performers on Saturday play regularly at the folk club on Tuesdays. So if you enjoyed the festival why not come and support the club back at The Brown Cow.
You will receive a friendly welcome.
Hope to see you there
